Puppy Poem

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep..
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I'm a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night.

GOOD ADVICE
If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout..! run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Sweet Melody
A sweet melody I heard today,
The sound of puppy’s so hard at play.
So happy are they not a care in the world
As they wrestle and romp, pull tails that are curled.
Noisy, like children, with their yaps and their howls.
They pounce and bounce, even try viscous growls.
Such innocence possessed by these bundles of energy
Will stay through their lives as they trust so many.
It won’t be long till they’ll have new homes
With prayers they are loved, not left to roam.
With care they’ll grow to be perfect companions,
Loving pets and even some become champions.
A champion on paper is but just a title
But a champion of hearts is much more vital.
Inside each fur ball out there rolling around
Is a heart full of love nowhere else can be found.
To be cherished by a human is what we hope to see,
A good life you give them is our only plea.
When you come shopping to look at these pups,
Look past their cuteness and see them grown up.
I’ll be looking at you with most critical eyes,
To send a pup to harm would be my demise!
A puppy’s so cute and has such cute ways
But as they grow you’ll have many hair-pulling days!
Will you have patience and guide them to see
The wonderful dog I know they can be?
A sweet melody I’m hearing today
With all these pups so hard at play.
I pray for the guidance for good homes somehow,
To be spared the nightmares of pitiful howls.
When buying a pup use your heart and your mind

The Life of a Puppy

This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad's head.
I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.
"The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great."
Then I thought about breakfast," I hope it's not late."

Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make Mama smile.
I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,
I ate something weird - it gave me gas.

I'm sure God loves me, I know that is true.
He gave me so many great things to chew.
Rugs, plants or rocks, I really don't care.
What I truly like best, is Dad's underwear.

That obedience book, was sort of yummy.
Though it didn't sit well on my poor puppy tummy.
I threw up a bit, but that was all right,
When Mom found it later, I was well out of sight.

I made streamers of T. P., while running at full speed.
Mom is pretty quick -- but I was still in the lead.
I flew under the bed, and Mom flew past,
She stopped-shook her head, and breathed,
"You're too fast."

Mama later phoned Daddy, and said, "It was frightening!"
That afternoon, she was sure I'd pooped lightning.
She'd sat at the computer, while I chewed the cord,
She thought I was mad, but I was just bored.

When Mama had enough, couldn't take anymore,
That's when my tushy got shoved out the door.
I love it inside, but outside is best.
Lay in the cool grass, and had a good rest.

That didn't last long, there was too much to do--
Can't quite remember where I hid Daddy's shoe.
I found an old bone, and scratched at a flea,
I watched the dumb squirrels as they jumped in a tree.

I barked at the kids, when they got off the bus.
I can't figure out why this makes Mama fuss.
I barked at the neighbor, I barked at the wind.
I barked and barked, till Mom yelled, "COME IN."

The sun dipped in the west-soon Daddy would come!
I sure love my daddy: we always have fun.
I barked at my daddy, then turned on my charms,
I woo-wooed, "Hello," then jumped in his arms.

Sitting under the table -- it's sooo hard to wait.
Daddy slipped me a goodie right off his plate.
I raced through the house, and scattered my toys,
Ricocheted off the furniture, and made lots of noise.

Mom found her purse - the one I abused.
Daddy let loose a chuckle. Mom asked "Amused??"
I cowered down low, I must be in trouble.
Dad said, "Wasn't MY boy, it must be his double!"

Mom turned off the TV, and said, " Time for bed."
Dad said "Let's go boy," and patted my head.
I got in my spot, between Mom and Dad,
I thought 'bout my day and what fun I had.

Mama kicked out my bone from the covers below,
Then let loose a sigh -- a sigh deep and low.
She gave me a kiss, and snuggled me tight,
And whispered so softly, 'My darling goodnight'

A Dog's Plea

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I might lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things that you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you know by the fierce wagging of my tail when the sound of your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
Please take me inside when its cold and wet, for I am a domestic animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements.
I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, my friend, when I am very old and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see to it that my life is taken gently.
I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your loving hands.

You can't buy loyalty, they say
I bought it though, the other day;
You can't buy friendship, tried and true,
But just the same, I bought that too.

I made my bid, and on the spot
Bought love and faith and a whole job lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small

I bought a single trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start
If you think these things are not for sale,
Buy a brown-eyed puppy with a wagging tail.

WHY DOGS ARE BETTER THAN WOMEN

Dogs Don't cry.

Dogs don't care if you use their shampoo or hairbrush.

Dogs think you sing great.

A dog's time in the bathroom is confined to a quick drink.

Dogs don't expect you to call when you're running late.

The later you are, the more excited dogs are to see you.

Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name.

Dogs can appreciate excessive body hair.

Anyone can get a good looking dog.

If a dog is gorgeous, other dogs don't hate it.

Dogs don't shop.

Dogs like it when you leave lots of things on the floor.

Dogs never need to examine the relationship.

A dog's parents never visit.

Dogs love long car trips.

Dogs understand that instincts are better than asking for directions.

When a dog gets old and starts to snap at you incessantly, you can shoot it.

Dogs like beer.

Dogs don't hate their bodies.

Dogs don't have to spend holidays and vacations with their parents.

Dogs like to go hunting and fishing.

Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across.

Dogs don't need 900 pairs of shoes.

Dogs never expect gifts.

Dogs never worry about germs.

Dogs don't let magazine articles run their lives.

You never have to wait for a dog, they're ready to go 24 hours a day.

Dogs have no use for flowers, jewelry or cards.

Dogs don't borrow your shirts.

Dogs find you amusing when you're drunk.

Dogs can't talk back.

When you're traveling, dogs don't need restrooms.

Dogs don't criticize.

Dogs listen without interrupting.

Dogs don't mind if the house isn't painted, the lawn mowed, or car washed.

WHY DOGS ARE BETTER THAN MEN

Dogs do not have problems expressing affection in public.

Dogs miss you when you're gone.

Dogs feel guilt when they've done something wrong.

Dogs don't criticize your friends.

Dogs admit when they're jealous.

Dogs are very direct about wanting to go out.

Dogs do not play games with you - except fetch (and they never laugh at how you throw)

Dogs are very happy with any video you choose to rent, because they know that the most important thing is that you're together.

Dogs don't feel threatened by your intelligence.

You can train a dog.

Dogs are easy to buy for.

Dogs are already in touch with their inner puppies.

Gorgeous dogs don't know they're gorgeous.

The worst social disease you can get from a dog is fleas. (OK. The "really" worst disease you can get from them is rabies, but there's a vaccine for it, and you get to kill the one that gives it to you.)

Dogs understand what "NO" means.

Dogs understand if some of their friends cannot come inside.

Dogs do not read at the table.

Dogs think you are a culinary genius.

You can force a dog to take a bath.

Dogs don't correct your stories.

Dogs don't mind if you do all the driving.

Dogs don't step on the imaginary brake.

Dogs admit it when they're lost.

Dogs don't weigh down your purse with their stuff.

Dogs look at your eyes.

Dogs do not care whether you shave your legs.

Dogs take care of their own needs.

Dogs aren't threatened if you earn more than they do.

Dogs mean it when they kiss you.

Dogs are nice to relatives.

HOW DOGS AND MEN ARE THE SAME

Both take up too much space in bed.

Both have irrational fears about vacuum cleaning.

Both mark their territory.

Both are bad at asking you questions.

Neither tells you what's bothering them.

Neither does any dishes.

Both fart shamelessly.

Neither of them notice when you get your hair cut.

Neither knows how to talk on the telephone.
