Ivan and 'cousin' Casey

From email October 2007

I thought these photos would help you to see how Ivan is growing and changing since coming to live in Columbus.  He currently weighs a little over 6lbs, growing slow and steady.  His favorite thing to cuddle with is still our Buddy—they’re good pals and more often than not can be found snuggled together whenever it’s time to take a rest (just like right now).  In between naps to restore his energy, he has a ball running after and being chased by both Caleigh & Buddy and when they ALL get going together—LOOK OUT!!  His ears flip over backwards when he runs and that means the play has hit a serious level :o) (it’s just too darn cute!)

Life is happy and busy in our little household with 3 dogs. We walk…and walk…and walk!!  Argyle has it down pat now!  He enjoys the walks because we have several neighbors who regularly come outside to fuss over him.  And he knows he’s cute too, believe me!!

From much sadness came much joy, this is the story of Caleigh (formerly Yani). My husband and I were heartbroken to lose our almost 13 year old miniature daschund this past June, who joined her 'sister', a 12 year old cocker spaniel whom we lost @ 1 year ago.  With their loving memory guiding us, we were anxious to share our home and our hearts with another companion. Convinced that a rescue animal was our small way to make a difference, we searched...and searched...and searched--so many stories, so many hopeful pups waiting for a new home!  We were overwhelmed!!  Yet, somehow, Caleigh's picture and story called out to us; a serious face & big dark eyes with a big numbered tag hanging around her neck.  This little pup couldn't be just a number, we thought--she needs a pretty name and a family who will love her.  And so our story together began--"she has some minor health issues we were told"; we can tend to them we thought.  "She's been in foster care longer than many of the others" she said; waiting for us to find her, we believed.  And on a bright sunny day in July we did just that when Caleigh jumped into our hearts with her happy disposition, wiggly tail and funny face.  Together we have enjoyed taking long walks, playing with the other pups at the "Bark Park", marching in the Mutt March for our local humane society and even taking a swim at the community pool's "Doggie Paddle" !!

Thank you Cindy and Freedom Rescue for the work you do and the joy you bring to those lucky enough to find you.  We tell everyone who stops to pat her head that we are one new and very happy family!!!    With love, Tony & Donna and Caleigh

Excepts from email... (thank you Donna)

We've had a busy fall.  In late October, our friend puppy sat Caleigh while we were out of town for a few days.  She has also fostered and helped many dogs over the years find new good homes since her work as a groomer and her daughter's work as a Vet Technician at our vet's office often make them aware of animals in need.  When Caleigh arrived for her stay she met a mini daschund they were fostering & calling Oscar who had come to them as a stray; saved by a good Samaritan but in need of a new permanent, loving home.  Well old Oscar and Miss Caleigh became the very best of friends (actually he's probably between 1-2 years old) and after watching them together and coming back to visit twice, he became part of our family too!!   Cindy--back in July when we were adopting Caleigh you commented that Charlie would miss her because she really liked to play...well now we REALLY understand what you mean!! These two are simply having a ball together!!

Tony and I thought we would try and adopt again from FR in early 2007, but Caleigh chose her companion for us instead (and he is also a special and deserving little soul).  For all of us, it has truly been a match made in heaven!!  We've renamed him Buddy because that's simply the best name we could think of for what he's been to all of us.

So that concludes our official introduction as to how a little boy named Buddy has come to join Caleigh and our little family.

By the way, the picture of both pups together with me (Donna) makes Caleigh look much chubbier than she is....she's still a string bean with so much energy weighing in at only @18-19 lbs!!  Holding them together bunched her up a bit.  But as they say, the camera adds 10 lbs.  Do you think that's true for dogs too??

I wanted to share that I found out today that my nephew Jeff and his new bride Sara are completing an adoption application for one of your puppies because they remembered how much we loved working with your organization...and of course, I sent them the link to the website when Caleigh's story was posted!  Jeff is actually the young man in in the photo I have sent of Caleigh (his family's dog, Toby is in the background).

The latest news!  Caleigh WILL have a new .... fur-cousin.  Jeff and Sara will be adopting Carli, one of Sadie's puppies.  We look forward to see her grow more as we have in the past few months.
